Yoga according to Tara
Tara Narain | Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 & YACEP teacher
Tara Narain (50) is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher and teacher trainer (E-RYT 500 and YACEP) registered with Yoga Alliance. Born in the Netherlands, but with Indian roots and a grandfather who was a Vedic pandit, she was introduced to the various branches of yoga at an early age; mantra chanting, meditation, pranayama, assisting Poojas (fire ceremonies) and reciting Vedic Sanskrit texts.
It was not until later in life, 39, that she discovered yoga asana, physical yoga practice. After practicing Bikram yoga intensively for five years, including participation in the Dutch national championships in 2015 and 2016, which acted more as a yoga demonstration, she was drawn more to her roots. Ashtanga yoga brought together all the aspects she had been exposed to from early on in life. She attended an intensive yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, India with Yogi Kamal Singh, world-renown for his unique hands-on adjustment techniques. And followed this up with a Pranayama Teacher Training (50hrs) with Sunil Sharma.
In Arnhem, she set up a Mysore yoga community, the hard core of which still practices together daily. During Covid, she closed the studio permanently and relocated to Bonaire in the Caribbean, where she again followed her calling and started a Mysore Ashtanga community at Bindu. A Yoga & Healing Centre, which she founded with her business partner Charley Heylen. Wherever possible, Tara continues to study with her teachers* authorised or certified directly by Pattabhi Jois and/or his grandson Sharath Jois and visits them abroad.
